Bhutan's much-awaited Bhutan Bird Festival is set to captivate nature
lovers from 13-15 November 2023. The event will unfold against the
stunning backdrop of Tingtibi in Zhemgang district, a hub of
eco-tourism.
Zhemgang, located around six hours' drive from Thimphu, boasts rich
biodiversity, sharing borders with Royal Manas National Park, Jigme
Singye Wangchuck National Park, and Phrumsengla National Park. This
natural haven shelters over 500 bird species, including the endangered
White-bellied Heron.
The festival aims to boost eco-tourism and local economies with
bird-watching hikes, cultural showcases, and culinary delights. From
local cuisines to bamboo weaving exhibits, the festival offers a sensory
delight. Attendees can explore trails, participate in traditional
games, and even indulge in white water rafting.
Bhutan's proactive conservation efforts have preserved over 700 bird
species, including the critically endangered White-bellied Heron and
Red-headed Vulture. The festival showcases Bhutan's harmonious
coexistence with nature and the diverse avian population.
As the festival approaches, excitement grows for an event that unites
nature enthusiasts and conservation advocates. According to Dorji
Dhradhul, Director General of the Department of Tourism, the Bhutan Bird
Festival is a platform to celebrate nature, promote conservation
awareness, and support the local community's economy.
