Police in Kuala Lumpur have launched a hunt for a man who shot and severely injured the personal bodyguard of a travel agent while she was waiting for clients at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
A man – believed to be the woman’s estranged husband and business partner – fired two shots, one of them hitting the woman’s bodyguard during a confrontation at the airport in the early hours of 14 April.
The suspect fled the scene and police warn that he is “armed and dangerous”.
The woman – who police believe was the intended target of the gunman – was at the airport to receive Muslim pilgrims returning from Mecca.
“This incident is unrelated to terrorist activities or groups and originated from a personal issue. The situation at KLIA is secure and under control,” confirmed Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan.
