Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is gearing up to enhance its ground
transportation infrastructure with a significant upgrade to its bus
station and railway connections. This initiative aims to streamline
accessibility for travellers using various modes of transportation.
Over the next few years, Schiphol plans to revamp its bus station,
introducing a modern covered platform with 20 stops and three stairways
connecting it to the train station. Scheduled for completion by 2027,
this project aligns with the airport's goal of promoting sustainable
travel and increasing public transport usage.
In addition to the bus station overhaul, Schiphol will construct a
new bicycle parking facility capable of accommodating 500 bikes.
Sybren Hahn, executive director of Schiphol Infrastructure, said:
“Currently, around half of travellers come here by public transport. Our
aim is for that amount to increase and to keep on making transportation
to and from Schiphol more sustainable.
“That requires investment in the bus station, so that travellers can
transfer between the various modes of transport – plane, train, bus,
bicycle, taxi, shared transport and car – more easily in the future.”
The renovation aims to make it easier for travellers to navigate
between train platforms and the bus station, reflecting a broader
strategy of promoting efficient, interconnected transportation networks.
