Malaysia is moving closer to sanctioning a new search for MH370, the plane that disappeared 10 years ago this week with 239 people on board.
The government has indicated it will meet United States company Ocean Infinity, which is ready for a new search of the southern Indian Ocean on a “no find, no fee” basis.
Ocean Infinity failed in a previous attempt to find the Malaysia Airlines plane in 2018.
A wing of the MH370 recovered off the coast of Africa was on display in a Kuala Lumpur shopping centre at the weekend.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the Malaysian government would discuss the details of the new search with Ocean Infinity but costs “were not an issue”.
He said approvals could pass through Malaysia’s cabinet within weeks, after which the government would seek the cooperation of Australia in launching a new search of the Indian Ocean.
Flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared in the early hours of March 8, 2014, and remains one of the world’s greatest aviation mysteries.
