Keen to welcome tourists back to the country, tourism stakeholders in
Myanmar have stepped up destination promotion efforts of the country in
the region.
Myanmar
Airways International (MAI), together with Myanmar Tourism Federation
(MTF) and Myanmar Tourism Marketing (MTM), have rolled out a series of
familiarisation trips in recent weeks for overseas travel agents and
social influencers from neighbouring countries, including Vietnam and
Thailand.
Focusing on the country's arts, culture and heritage, these fam trips
took visitors beyond Yangon, Bago and Golden Rock – top sites for the
Vietnamese and Thai markets – to destinations farther upcountry
including Bagan and Mandalay.
The return of fam groups was much welcomed for local tourist guides
like Myo Kyaw Aung, whose livelihood, like many others in his
profession, was among the most affected during the pandemic.
Myo Thwin, chairman of Myanmar Tourism Marketing, adds, “Recent years
have been challenging for Myanmar’s tourism industry but there is still
great hope and positivity and these FAM trips will showcase diverse
collection of authentic experiences in Myanmar among the travel agents
to develop attractive packages for the Myanmar market.”
