In honour of International Women’s Day on 8 March, the World Travel
& Tourism Council (WTTC) revealed findings from a report on the
remarkable impact of women in the global travel & tourism sector.
Recent data from WTTC reveals a notable surge in female employment
within the sector, with women constituting nearly 40% of the total
workforce. From 2010 to 2019, there has been a remarkable 24% increase
in direct female employment, soaring from 38.6 million to an impressive
47.8 million.
Hospitality emerges as a standout, employing over half (52%) of all
women in the travel & tourism sector in 2019. Julia Simpson, WTTC
president & CEO, applauds the vital role of women, stating, “Women
in Travel & Tourism play a vital role. We are proud that our sector
is one of the largest employers of women in the world."
The data further reveals that women in travel & tourism surpass
the average workforce participation in other sectors globally. In
regions like the Americas, women hold a more significant share of
employment in the sector compared to the broader economy.
