Tourism Malaysia has announced the immediate appointment of Manoharan Periasamy as the new director-general, effective 26 February, following the departure of Datuk Dr. Ammar Abd Ghapar.

The official announcement was shared on Tourism Malaysia’s Facebook page, extending congratulations to Manoharan on his new role.

Manoharan brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served three terms as the director of Tourism Malaysia for India and as the senior director for international promotion (Asia & Africa). During his previous tenure, he played a pivotal role in establishing the first National Tourism Organisation (NTO) office in Mumbai, India in 2001.

The leadership transition comes as a strategic move for Tourism Malaysia, aiming to leverage Manoharan's expertise and insights to drive the country's tourism initiatives.

Meanwhile, Datuk Dr. Ammar Abd Ghapar, who assumed the director-general role in April 2024, has been reassigned to the position of deputy director-general (planning).
