Saudi Arabia has introduced a new upcoming attraction: a Dragon Ball
theme park. This announcement, made on 22 March 2024, has sent waves of
excitement among fans of the iconic manga series, even as they mourn the
recent passing of its creator, Akira Toriyama, at the age of 68.
Spanning an impressive 500,000 square metres, the park promises to
immerse visitors in the world of Dragon Ball, allowing them to relive
the saga from its inception to the latest Dragon Ball Super installment.
According to a press release from the Qiddiya Investment Company,
enthusiasts can anticipate a dynamic experience at the heart of the
action.
Since its debut in 1984, Dragon Ball has captivated audiences
worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing manga franchises in
history. Toriyama's recent demise, attributed to a cerebral blood clot,
triggered a global wave of tributes, with leaders like French President
Emmanuel Macron and Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin expressing
condolences.
While an opening date for the park remains undisclosed, authorities
have revealed that the park will feature seven themed zones inspired by
the series' iconic dragon-containing balls, offering over 30 rides. At
its core will stand a majestic 70-metre (230-foot) dragon, embodying the
essence of Dragon Ball's mythical universe.
Along with the Dragon Ball theme park in the planned entertainment
and tourism megaproject of Qiddiya, other attractions include high-end
theme parks, motorsport facilities, and a sprawling safari area.
