Japan has rolled out a new e-visa system, aiming to streamline the visa application process for tourists from several countries to enhance convenience and efficiency for travellers planning to visit Japan.

Under the newly introduced e-Visa system, eligible applicants from countries such as Brazil, Taiwan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Cambodia, Saudi Arabia, the US, and India, among others, can now apply for visas electronically. This eliminates the need for physical visa stickers and simplifies the entire application procedure.

Managed by VFS Global, Japan Visa Application Centre serve as the designated platform for submitting e-Visa applications. Applicants can conveniently complete the process online, making it more accessible and hassle-free. Successful applicants receive electronic visas, enabling them to enter Japan for tourism purposes for up to 90 days.

Application process:

  1. Visit the official website of the Japan Visa Application Centre managed by VFS Global.
  2. Choose the "Temporary Visitor Visa" option, review requirements, download and fill out the application form, and prepare photocopies of necessary documents.
  3. Schedule an appointment at the Visa Application Centre and submit your completed form.
  4. Wait for notification regarding your decision and collect your eVisa. Show the "visa issuance notice" on your mobile device upon airport arrival.

One of the key features of the e-Visa system is the digital 'visa issuance notice,' which travellers must present upon arrival in Japan. This notice, accessible on mobile devices, signifies a significant departure from traditional visa issuance methods. However, it's essential to note that internet connectivity is required for this process.
