The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has bolstered its presence at ITB Berlin this week with members and partners from the states of Perak, Sabah, and Selangor eager to showcase their eco-tourism products.

Ganneesh Ramaa, MATTA’s vice president inbound and domestic, said, “Our team this year is large, with our president Nigel Wong in attendance.

“We aim to showcase the various aspects of our destinations and highlight our capability to accommodate a wide range of visitors, travel preferences and interest,” Ramaa added.

The MATTA “Sustainability Exchange” with the European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Associations (ECTAA), the Dutch Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (ANVR) and the German Travel Association (DRV) will be taking place on 6 March.

Wong said the Exchange would highlight some of the initiatives MATTA is rolling out to kickstart a private sector-driven effort.

“The insights from our European counterparts gained through the Exchange will be of immense help in enriching our programmes as well as developing tourism products to cater to the growing trend of travellers seeking more responsible tourism experiences when they visit Malaysia,” he said.

ITB Asia will also see the launch of four paintings of endangered wildlife by digital artist Rachel Gray, part of the MATTA Sustainable Tourism Project.

Gray, a British artist who specialises in wildlife portraiture, will be present at the MATTA stand.
