The Maldives marked a historic tourism milestone in 2023, greeting
over 1.8 million visitors, setting an unprecedented record as the
highest number of tourists welcomed in a single year in its entire
tourism history.
A Dutch native arriving from Dubai, became the symbolic 1.8 millionth
tourist, setting foot on Maldivian soil on 20 December 2023, initiating
a celebratory event organised by the Maldives Marketing and Public
Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives).
CEO & managing director of MMPRC, Fathmath Thaufeeq, expressed
immense pride in achieving this goal and emphasised the country's
commitment to continuing its success in the tourism sector.
Throughout the year, MMPRC executed an extensive marketing campaign
with 349 initiatives, reaching a staggering audience of over 6 billion
globally.
Collaborations with renowned brands like Qatar Airways, along with the successful staging of the Visit Maldives Storytellers’ Conference 2023, significantly bolstered the Maldives' global visibility.
These strategic promotional activities, aimed at promoting
sustainable tourism experiences, contributed to the Maldives surpassing 1
million visitors within seven months.
