Introduced in 1999, the ‘Malaysia: Truly Asia’ slogan continues to define Malaysia as the country gears up for Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Dato’ Dr Ammar Abd Ghapar, director general of Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, asserts that the tagline encapsulates the essence of the country’s rich cultural tapestry.
“The tagline sums up the distinctiveness and allure of Malaysia that make it an exceptional tourist destination where all the cultures, traditions, colours and flavours of Asia come together,” he said, speaking to Travel Weekly Asia at the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum in Vientiane, Laos.
The tourism slogan not only serves as a powerful marketing tool but also pays homage to Malaysia’s historical role as a meeting point for diverse Asian cultures.
“At the turn of the century, people from all over Asia came to Malaysia, either by land or sea, to trade or resettle. Today, if you’re a visitor from India, China or Indonesia, you will find something of your own culture that resonates with you in Malaysia,” added Ammar.
It sure looks like the ‘Malaysia: Truly Asia’ slogan remains an enduring tagline: a destination that offers a condensed version of the broader Asian continent.
