When the Olympic Games descend upon Paris from 26 July to 11 August, travellers should prepare for several unique challenges in navigating the city.

Security measures, including QR codes, will be implemented in designated "red zones" and "blue zones" around iconic venues like the Eiffel Tower. The red and blue zones serve as restricted areas with varying levels of access. Red zones typically have the strictest security measures, limiting entry to essential personnel, while blue zones may have fewer restrictions but still control access. These designations aim to enhance security around Olympic venues, ensuring the safety of participants and attendees.

Residents and travellers must navigate these zones according to specified regulations, impacting daily routines and creating a controlled environment for the duration of the Games.

Certain professions, like taxi drivers with reservations and emergency locksmiths, can access restricted zones after online registration. However, food delivery drivers using vehicles will face prohibitions, necessitating deliveries on foot, with successful applicants receiving QR codes.

Beyond security concerns, the French government advises against ordering parcel deliveries during the Olympic games. With expectations of crowded conditions and limited public transport, some residents plan to escape the city during this period.

Former transport minister Clement Beaune warns of "hardcore" conditions, with special lanes for Olympic traffic and detours in place. Despite these challenges, organisers assure that essential car journeys will remain possible.
