The iconic Eastern & Oriental Express, A Belmond Train, is making
a return on February 2024. This train will offer a reimagined adventure
through Southeast Asia, with two new seasonal journeys the – Essence of
Malaysia (November to February) and Wild Malaysia (March to October) –
departing from Singapore and taking passengers through Malaysia’s
diverse landscapes.
Essence of Malaysia
The Essence of Malaysia is a three-night train journey from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, and Penang.
The Essence of Malaysia is a three-night expedition that takes
passengers on a journey through the country's western wonders. Departing
from Singapore's Woodlands station, the train will make stops at Kuala
Lumpur, Langkawi, and Penang.
One of the highlights of this trip is a unique opportunity for guests
to embark on a snorkelling excursion in the Pulau Payar Marine Park,
Langkawi's renowned snorkelling spot.
Additionally, a visit to Penang offers a chance to explore its UNESCO
World Heritage sites, street art, and diverse culinary scene. Guests
can choose to partake in cultural activities such as visiting art
galleries, ancient temples, local markets, or indulging in an authentic
Peranakan cooking class.
Wild Malaysia
The Wild Malaysia itinerary explores the untamed areas near the 'Jungle Railway,' including a visit to Taman Negara National Park.
The Wild Malaysia itinerary is a new addition to the Eastern &
Oriental Express. This journey focuses on the untouched areas
surrounding the 'Jungle Railway' on the eastern side of the peninsula,
with a special visit to the Taman Negara National Park.
Collaborating with the global tiger conservation organisation Save
Wild Tigers, this itinerary provides opportunities to learn about the
protection of the Malayan Tiger, engage in a photography masterclass,
and experience jungle foraging. The journey then proceeds to Penang,
where guests can explore the island's rich artistic, culinary, and
historical heritage.

Onboard the Eastern & Oriental Express, guests can expect a
celebration of local culture and gastronomy. The train's menu features
modern Peranakan dishes with the use of local ingredients.
The train also provides encounters with local artisans and
opportunities to learn ancient crafts and hear captivating stories from
the region.
The train's 15 restyled carriages have undergone a refurbishment. The
Pullman, State, and Presidential cabins now feature air-conditioning
and private bathrooms. The design elements of each cabin category
reflect the essence of iconic destinations.
The Eastern & Oriental Express has renovated its 15 carriages, upgrading Pullman, State, and Presidential cabins with air-conditioning, private bathrooms, and destination-inspired designs.
The Pullman cabins draw inspiration from Kuala Lumpur, featuring red
and blue accents. The State cabins pay homage to Penang's marine locale
with a blue and green colour palette. The Presidential cabins exude
opulence, with gold tones and intricate embroidered décor.
The train's communal areas, such as the Piano Bar Car and Observation
Car, have also been reimagined with vibrant colors, hand-painted
accents, and natural wicker details.
