Denmark has topped the latest Global Remote Work Index produced by
cybersecurity and business network safety specialist, Nordlayer.
Countries in northern and southern Europe dominated the top five
positions with Netherlands in second spot, followed, in order, by
Germany, Spain and Portugal.
The Global Remote Work Index measures four main dimensions:
cybersecurity, economics, infrastructure, and, since this year, a new
addition—social safety criteria—to ensure the quality of remote work.
“For some, it’s all about the cultural experience. For others, it’s
about cybersecurity, social life, infrastructure, or high-speed
internet. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer,” Nordlayer says.
While the top-ranked countries in the overall GRWI tend to be more
expensive to live in, Nordlayer noted Portugal ranked 6th overall and
56th in cost of living, “offering the best value-for-money opportunity
among the top 10 overall”.
Denmark leads the GRWI 2023, excelling in digital and physical
infrastructure (4th) and social safety (6th). Despite a high cost of
living (94th) and pricey internet (42nd), Denmark thrives in social
inclusiveness (6th), internet quality (7th), e-infrastructure (7th),
e-government (5th), and healthcare (3rd), making it a prime location for
remote work.
In Asia, South Korea (17th), Japan (22nd), and Singapore (28th)
emerge as clear leaders within the GRWI ranking, “boasting remarkable
digital infrastructure, tourism, and e-governance”.
