In a joint venture to drive a more seamless digital travel experience to tourists arriving in Singapore, ComfortDelGro Taxi and Alipay+ have entered into a partnership that allows Malaysians to use Touch ‘n Go eWallet and South Koreans to use Kakao Pay in paying for their cab far.

ComfortDelGro Taxi — Singapore’s biggest taxi operator — had earlier in 2017 enabled commuters to use Alipay, a mobile payment platform mainly used by Chinese nationals. Now the taxi operator is making its payment options more inclusive for other nationalities, along with 20 other cashless payment methods.

Users of the Touch ‘n Go eWallet and Kakao Pay cashless apps can pay for their cab fare by tapping their phones to a device installed across the 9,000 Comfort and CityCab taxis in Singapore. This timely collaboration was set into effect shortly after Singapore fully reopened to vaccinated visitors, without the need for any Covid-19 tests.

“With Singapore reopening its borders, we are looking forward to having tourists come visit us,” said Jackson Chia, CEO of ComfortDelGro Taxi. “As such, our partnership with Alipay+ is a vital one as it allows cashless payment options such as Malaysia’s Touch ‘n Go eWallet and soon South Korea’s Kakao Pay available on board ComfortDelGro taxis, making it more convenient for both Malaysian and South Korean tourists to pay for taxi fares.”

In celebration of this new partnership, RM4 (US$0.91) to RM6 (US$1.37) will be automatically deducted for the first 300 transactions daily via the Touch ‘n Go eWallet from 9 to 25 June. The discounts will vary across different weeks.
